Community Schools Theater and Arts Presents Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!


When the ever mysterious chocolate maker Willy Wonka is ready to retire he holds a contest where five lucky children will have the chance to tour his Chocolate factory, among those children is a young inventor named Charlie Buckett who dreams of inventing all kinds of sweets! But with his father passed and his mother being the sole provider of the rickety old shack they live in, his dreams seem more like distant stars in the sky.


Could this be Charlie’s chance to reach his dreams and save his family from poverty? Find out when Community Schools Theater and Arts “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” performs on August 15th, 16th, and 17th.


Please note that some shows may have limited cast sizes, which means not everyone who auditions will be selected.


Important Dates for Charlie:


AUDITION TIMES:   June 13th  3pm - 8pm,   June 14th 10am - 5pm


CALLBACKS: June 18th  5pm - 8pm


ONBOARDING - June 21st  10am- 11:30 am


PERFORMANCES - August 15th @6pm, August 16th @2pm, and August 17th @2pm


Practices will be Mon - Fri around 4pm - 8pm tentatively


Audition Requirements:

  • Song: Prepare a song with a backing track between 45 seconds and 2 minutes long. Edits to your music are acceptable.

  • Monologues: Monologues will be available online and at the audition location. Learning them beforehand is welcome but not mandatory. You may not be asked to perform all monologues.


Callbacks:

  • The cast list will be posted on the Facebook Page after callbacks.

  • Only those invited will be notified about attending callbacks.

  • Callbacks will take place on the Wednesday after auditions from 5pm to 8pm (unless noted otherwise)


Onboarding Session: 

An onboarding session is mandatory for all participants and will take place on the Saturday following auditions from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM.


Parental/Guardian Attendance: 

For participants under the age of 18, a parent, guardian, or responsible adult must attend the onboarding session. Failure to do so will result in ineligibility for the program.

Character List for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

(Age is recommended but not required)


Willy Wonka: A enigmatic and eccentric chocolatier in his late thirties or early forties. With a voice that ranges from G4 to A2, Wonka possesses a captivating vocal quality that can be as sweet as a chocolate truffle or as dark as a midnight mystery.


Charlie Bucket: A ten-year-old boy of exceptional kindness and hope. His innocent and hopeful nature shines through in his vocal range of F5 to G#3.


Grandpa Joe: A mischievous old codger in his late sixties or early seventies. His voice, G4 to G#2, is full of laughter and wisdom, reflecting his youthful spirit.


Mrs. Bucket: A warm and loving mother in her late thirties or early forties. Her voice, E5 to G3, is as comforting as a warm cup of cocoa, providing a sense of security and support.


Grandma Josephine, Grandma Georgina, and Grandpa George: A trio of grandparents in their late sixties or early seventies, each with their own unique quirks and vocal styles.


Mrs. Gloop: A domineering and arrogant woman in her late thirties or early forties. Her voice, D5 to Bb3, is as forceful as a hurricane, commanding attention and respect.


Augustus Gloop: A gluttonous and rambunctious ten- to twelve-year-old boy. His voice, G5 to Bb3, is as loud as a cannon, reflecting his insatiable appetite and boundless energy.


Mr. Salt: A scatterbrained and easily distracted father in his late thirties or early forties. His voice, Ab4 to Ab2, is as light as a feather, reflecting his carefree and jovial nature.


Veruca Salt: A spoiled and entitled ten- to twelve-year-old girl. Her voice, Db5 to Ab4, is as sharp as a knife, reflecting her vicious and demanding personality.


Mr. Beauregarde: A meek and mild-mannered father in his late thirties or early forties. His voice, G4 to F#3, is as quiet as a whisper, reflecting his submissive and unassertive nature.


Violet Beauregarde: A confident and arrogant ten- to twelve-year-old girl. Her voice, F#5 to C#4, is as chewy as bubble gum, reflecting her bold and outspoken personality.


Mike Teavee: A hyperactive and obsessed ten- to twelve-year-old boy. His voice, Bb4 to G3, is as static-filled as an old television, reflecting his intense focus on technology.


Mrs. Teavee: A harried and frazzled mother in her late thirties or early forties. Her voice, Eb5 to G3, is as sharp as a tack, reflecting her tense and demanding personality.


Mrs. Green, Jerry, Cherry, and the Ensemble: A colorful cast of supporting characters of various ages, each with their own unique voices and personalities, contributing to the richness and diversity of the musical.
